Keep Your Teeth Cavity Free with Fluoride Varnish
Have you had a history of dental cavities? No matter how hard you try to brush and floss your teeth you still seem to need fillings on a regular basis? You may need to supplement your routine with a Fluoride Varnish at your dental cleanings.
What is a fluoride varnish? A fluoride varnish is a highly concentrated dose of fluoride applied directly to your teeth. The varnish sticks to the tooth surface and hardens. The fluoride in the varnish then incorporates itself into the enamel tooth structure, creating a harder enamel surface. This harder surface, makes it less likely to breakdown in the presence of acid and bacteria and prevents the formation of cavities.
Who should have a fluoride varnish? Fluoride varnish is great for people with a high risk of getting cavities. This includes:
People who have had a cavity in the past 12 months.
People that have 8+ fillings in their mouth due to cavities.
Children under the age of 18.
People with gum recession or previous periodontal disease.
Once the fluoride varnish is applied, we ask that you avoid hot foods for 30 minutes and wait to brush for at least 6 hours. If you have had a history of cavities, make sure you talk to your dentist at your next cleaning to see if a fluoride varnish is right for you.
